Position Summary:

The Managing Editor at Bensp Press will lead and oversee all editorial operations, ensuring the production of high-quality, accurate, and timely news content across multiple platforms. This role is critical in advancing Bensp Press’s vision by fostering an agile, results-driven, and collaborative newsroom culture that upholds the highest standards of trustworthy journalism. The Managing Editor will directly manage editorial teams, oversee content strategy, maintain editorial integrity, and ensure alignment with the company’s mission to build informed communities.

 

Key Responsibilities

•           Lead and manage the editorial team to produce impactful, credible, and engaging news content across TV, digital, print, and social media platforms.

•           Develop, implement, and fine-tune editorial strategies aligned with Bensp Press’s vision, mission, and values.

•           Ensure strict adherence to editorial guidelines, fact-checking, and ethical journalism standards.

•           Coordinate with other departments including Marketing, Digital Strategy, and IT to optimize news distribution and audience engagement.

•           Oversee the editorial calendar, news planning, and breaking news responsiveness to maintain agility and speed.

•           Mentor and develop editorial staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and professionalism.

•           Collaborate with senior management to shape company-wide policies on news content quality, editorial independence, and newsroom innovation.

•           Monitor news trends and competitor activity to maintain Bensp Press’s competitive edge and relevance.

•           Manage budgets related to editorial operations and identify opportunities for resource optimization.

•           Serve as a key spokesperson and representative for Bensp Press editorial standards in internal and external forums.

 

Required Qualifications

•           Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

•           Minimum of 7 years of progressive editorial experience, including at least 3 years in a senior editorial leadership role.

•           Demonstrated expertise in multimedia journalism and newsroom digital transformation.

•           Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing diverse teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

•           Exceptional editorial judgment, excellent communication skills, and a passion for ethical journalism.

•           Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders.

•           Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and accuracy.

 

Preferred Qualifications

•           Experience working in or managing newsrooms in Africa or emerging media markets.

•           Knowledge of contemporary news technologies, data journalism, and audience analytics tools.

•           Experience with content monetization strategies and digital news marketing.

•           Familiarity with equity-based compensation models and startup or growth-stage media environments.
